sushi note
perhaps it’s good for the grieving process to return to old versions of yourself before the person existed in your life.
i went to Sushi Note on Tuesday, superstitiously the best day to get sushi because the fish is freshest and just delivered from the markets.
last time i went to Sushi Note was back in 2020, when we still had to sit outside, and i went with some not-so-good people i knew from when i lived in Mexico City. and then i went another time with someone who is now a top substacker (lol). i remember being obsessed with this “hidden gem” of a sushi place.
i thought going back to a place i once loved nearly six years ago would make me feel better and be like “OK SEE YOU’VE ALWAYS HAD GOOD TASTE.”
but honestly the restaurant didn’t bring the same magic i once thought it did.
i guess we sometimes we retroactively assign beauty and meaning to periods of our lives that were actually unstable or lonely.

however, i always love trying restaurants, despite this one being not AS good as i remembered.
we sat at the wine bar and the waiters were eavesdropping on our conversation (strange). both of us don’t drink so they were probably very confused on why we came to a wine tasting omakase. but the fish was definitely yummy and fresh! i think it was just the ambiance that was a little… stiff.
i took photos on my date’s keyphone, and this is now my new favorite camera.

house @ harper & waring
i hope to buy this house someday. it’s my favorite house in west hollywood, and west hollywood is my favorite neighborhood in LA.
zillow says it’s 1500 sq ft, only twice as big as my current place and priced at $1.15 million. Dare I say DOABLE???
this Streamline Moderne duplex was designed in 1936 by self-taught architect William Kesling. Kesling has some lore to him, which makes it even better. in 1937, a grand jury investigation found him guilty of overcharging his clients to finish their homes. he was initially sentenced to prison. however, the judge suspended the sentence and commuted it to two years of probation. as a condition of this probation, he was strictly prohibited from doing any design or construction work. JUICY!!

signed a year-long lease for my new apartment in WeHo, so it’s time to lean even more into the lifestyle over here.
i went to a devon de jardin art gallery opening at a house behind chateau marmont. i haven’t seen a crowd like this since 2018. my friend kenzie grabbed my arm and goes “OMG THE OWNER OF NAHMIAS IS HERE” which meant absolutely nothing to me until i realized it was a clothing brand i was supposed to know.
later i begged kenzie to walk home, it was a warm summer night after all. she goes “TORI YOU’RE CRAZY I’M IN HEELS!” i pout as we walk down to chateau for our uber to pick us up. a paparazzi snaps a couple photos of us. i guess my amazon scarf tied into a top really made an impression that night.
another part of WeHo lifestyle is going to expensive grocery stores and sitting outside in hopes of getting discovered.
i went to laurel supply with mallory and her friend anna. the hot bar is actually pretty inedible, i’m hoping they step their game up as it’s only the first couple weeks of them being open. i’m just such a loyal erewhon member.
it was fun to try every candle and perfume in the store though.

i drove home that night with the hopeful feeling that maybe my life was beginning to start again.
